Care & Support Ministries
First UMC offers many ways in which to extend and receive love and encouragement during significant times in one’s life. To volunteer for, or to receive the services of any Care & Support Ministry, please contact the church office. You will receive contact information for the Coordinator noted following each description.
Visitation Ministry – Regular visits are made to persons who are home-bound by volunteer team members and/or Coordinator, Erin Chautin.
Care Team – Calls and/or visits are made & cards are sent to persons who could use an uplifting word as well as offering congratulations of a blessed event. Tom & Mary Ann Melton, Coordinators.
Prayer Chain – Names of persons who are in need of prayer are sent out via email. Prayer Chain members then begin to pray for the individual and/or family. Specific information regarding the medical, emotional, mental or spiritual need is not shared in the emails unless requested by the one being lifted in prayer. Jill Scholl, Coordinator.
Cook Team – Meals are prepared and taken to an individual or family who have recently experienced loss of a loved one, time of crisis, surgery, new baby, etc. Each team is made up of 4-6 persons. Shirley Temples, Coordinator.
Flower Ministry – Flowers used in Sunday worship services are rearranged into smaller bouquets and delivered to those who could use a touch of Son-shine in their lives! Suki Polk, Coordinator.
Barnabas Writers – Volunteer writers covenant to send hand-written notes to 3 different individuals/families each week who are experiencing crisis or loss. Recipients are chosen from names submitted by the congregation, community and beyond. Every week, 3 new recipients are selected to receive notes of encouragement and support. Kathey Groves, Coordinator.
